Benue SUBEB Recruitment Cut Off Marks for CBT Exams 2024
The Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) wishes to address some concerns raised by some members of the Public and provide clarification regarding the recently concluded teacher recruitment process as follows:
Key Points Of Clarification:
CUT-OFF MARKS FOR RECRUITMENT:
- The cut-off marks for Degree holders were set higher than those for NCE holders to reflect the Board’s expectations of a higher academic performance threshold for these professionals.
Specifically, the cut-off marks were:
1. Degree holders (B.Ed.) – 50%
2. NCE holders – 45%
3. BSc, B.A – English, and Science-related courses – 25%
- This decision aligns with SUBEB’s strategy to prioritise the recruitment of Science and Mathematics teachers to address the acute shortage of qualified personnel in these critical areas at the primary school level.
ELIGIBILITY FOR CBT PARTICIPATION:
- Only applicants with the following qualifications were allowed to participate in the Computer-Based Test (CBT):
1. NCE
2. B.Ed.
3. B.A English
4. BSc. Mathematics and other pure Science courses (e.g., Physics, Chemistry).
- Pure Science graduates who participated in the test are expected to handle Basic Science subjects in primary schools, addressing the foundational needs for Science education.
- Applicants with other qualifications were screened out to ensure the recruitment process aligns with the state’s critical need for foundational subject teachers.
FOCUS ON SCIENCE EDUCATION:
- The prioritisation of Science and Mathematics teachers is a deliberate effort to reverse the decline in student enrollment and performance in science-related subjects. The Board is committed to strengthening the foundation of Science education at the primary school level.
NCE CUT-OFF MARKS:
- The cut-off mark for NCE holders was set at a lower threshold (45%) because it is expected that Qualified teachers will remain longer in the system, ensuring continuity and stability in teaching at the foundational education level._
PTA TEACHERS AND RECRUITMENT:
- SUBEB has not issued any statement about the automatic absorption of PTA teachers into the recruitment process.
- Like all other applicants, PTA teachers were required to participate in and pass the CBT to qualify for recruitment. A memo was issued to Education Secretaries to caution PTA teachers against relying on misinformation and to adhere strictly to the recruitment guidelines.
- The general public is advised to disregard unfounded rumours and refrain from making negative comments aimed at distracting SUBEB from its commitment to delivering quality basic education across Benue State.
